This has been quite a week here at Catlandia. I hardly know where to start. A friend who has been caring for a feral cat colony contacted me about a sick or hurt tom in her colony. I brought my trusty havaheart trap and trapped him. He is a sick older tom with some sort of mouth injury or disease. I call him Angelo. Here he is with me now in a "feral cat condo" in the livingroom. ' ' |
A you can see, he really needs some help. Soooo...in the wee hours the night I trapped him I created a youcaring fundraiser page and challenged people to donate $1 and then challenge 20 friends to donate $1. It didn't quite work out that way, but we raised enough money to at least get him in the vet's door. Here is the link, in case you want to try the dollar challenge with your friends. Copy and Paste!

So I begged our vet to squeeze him into a double booked Friday afternoon. My vet and staff are amazing and they got us in.

When we got home I posted this on our Facebook page called Catlandia:
"Angelo is home and in a big dog crate with food (wet food with extra water) water, litter pan, cat crate , and a towel on the side where he is currently hanging out. the crate is mostly covered to give it a nice quiet secure private feeling. We went to the doc in the trap. Well, Angelo did, I drove. Vets only see feral cats in crates or asleep. Its just not safe otherwise. So he looked at Angelo's mouth and said he needed to knock him out to really look at it. I asked if we could also neuter while he's out and yes we can and will do that on Wednesday. he got a shot of steroids and antibiotics for now to get ahead of this and to ease his pain and swelling some. Doc says it could be stomatitis, abscessed broken tooth, or tumor. We'll know more on Wednesday. Til then we just take care of him and keep him calm."
So yes, named him Angelo and I named the colony the Little Italians. They are living in a really shitty junkyard-looking metal pipe business property. Bad stuff. And while Catlandia doesn't have room or funds for these guys we couldn't say no. There are a dozen kittens, and more adults there...all unaltered. So we have to help them.
We also brought home Vito, who is a young neutered guy who really deserves a home. I'll post more soon..computer not cooperating!
