Guiseppe in the cattery today. What a long way he has come!
Yesterday was another one of those magical days for me that have as that magic moment something so small, so seemingly inconsequential and quiet that only my thunderous typing can help me shout it to the world: I stroked Papi's back today! This must seem like a snoozefest to you, dear reader. But I have known Papi for a while now, and though he loves the food I bring to him, he has only ever hissed at my approach or when I draw too near. Even lately, when he has started approaching me and getting closer to me when I come to the colony home to feed them all, he is still hissing. But yesterday when he started eating the food I gave him, I took a moment to slowly bring my hand to the middle of his back, and, barely touching his fur, stroked a two inch piece of him and then slowly stood up, as happy and in wonder as ever. Some of you may remember how long and hard it was trapping this old suck crabby tom cat. And how he was too sick to neuter, and how he spent 15 days with me getting medicated and then healing, and then getting neutered. And then taken home. He spent 15 days in a large dog crate in my bedroom, and inside was food, water, a litter box, and a hidey hole carrier bed. I always wished I could keep him, and now I plan to trap him again one day. Soon, I hope. His upper respiratory issues are back, although not as bad as they once were. I want to bring him to Catlandia for a soft retirement from the strains of colony life. To do this I must prove that I can support us all and keep us secure. So that is what I am in the process of doing now. Dear Papi, wait for me and stay alive and stay as well as you can til I can bring you home. I want to make the rest of your life as sweet as it can be. I love you. Little Grey continues to get more of a safe, secure, comfortable feeling in the home. He is so shy. It was good to see Martin rub up against him as they used to do at the colony.
Little Grey is back on antibiotics for his upper respiratory issue which was better for a good while but bothering him again now. Fingers crossed this will do the trick. |
